PHC Motors, Accra (Head Office)

PHC Motors Limited has been at the heart of the motor industry in Ghana since 1968. Over the years we have operated under the names of Leyland Motors, Leyland Daf and Land Rover Ghana.

In 1998 our company’s minority shareholders, the Peperas, entered into share purchaser negotiations with the majority shareholders – Leyland Daf of Einhover, Holland. These negotiations were successful and by 1993 the Pepera acquired the majority shares in the company and renamed it PHC Motors Limited. We thus became one of the few motor companies in Ghana to be solely owned and operated by Ghanaians.

Our company’s Chairman, Mr. Kwabena Pepera, is one of the leading entrepreneurial businessmen in Ghana. He has several business interests in Ghana in the following areas.

•    Manufacture and Export of furniture

•    Distilling alcoholic beverages

•    Property Development

•    Agency Representation

As far as the motor business is concerned, Mr. Kwabena Peperas involvement dates back to 1965 when he participated in the creation of Leyland Motors Ghana. During 1968 Kwabena Pepera became the first private individual to hold shares in a British Motor Corporation subsidiary. In the same year he was appointed by Lord Stokes (the Chairman of BMC) as the Chairman of the Ghanaian subsidiary.

By 1976 Mr. Pepera was offered a 40% shareholding in the company, but Ghana Government policy at the time only allowed him to acquire a 20% interest. However, in 1993 the Peperas were able to purchase the majority shares in the company.

Our Managing Director, Mr. Paul Pepera, a Barrister at Law by profession, has also been at the center of the private sector in Ghana for almost twenty years.

Under Ghanaian control our company’s fortunes were revived during the nineties. Substantial investments resulted in the creation of a completely modernized service facility in Accra, as well as a first class showroom.

At present PHC Motors Limited is expanding its horizon to meet the needs of its customers. We have commissioned to date six Service Centers in five Regions – namely Takoradi, Tarkwa, Sunyani, Tamale, Koforidua and Ho. Added to this we have our branch in Kumasi. All this goes towards realizing our mission – to establish modern sales and service centers throughout the length and breadth of Ghana which will provide the very highest levels of customer satisfaction.
